About the Hartford Courant SMS

What is the Hartford Courant SMS?
SMS stands for Stock Market Simulation. The word simulation means that the SMS is more than just a game. It is a tool that teachers use along with the newspaper to help instruct their students in the world of economics, finance, business, current events, math, social studies and technology. Teams of students "buy" and "sell" stocks over a ten week trading period using an imaginary portfolio of $100,000.

About Stock-Trak, Inc.

The Connecticut SMS is produced by Stock-Trak, Inc. Stock-Trak is one of the top providers of stock market simulation programs for the educational market. At the college level, the Stock-Trak website at www.stocktrak.com is used by more than 800 professors each year and has been providing simulations for over 15 years.

Since 1997, Stock-Trak has been promoting a high school version called the SMS (Stock Market Simulation). This program has been adopted by 19 state Councils on Economic Education that are affiliated with the National Council on Economic Education and EconomicsAmerica. In some states where there is not a Council affiliation, Stock-Trak also works with other educational programs such as the Newspapers in Education network.
